Still living one step away from danger, my passion is now tree climbing. As a tree surgeon located in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, of Queensland, Australia , my ever-present intuition continues to guide me when I'm ‘out on a limb’ – literally. The days of looking for a Guru to help make sense of my mess are long gone; instead, I've found the Guru within.
After all, if you spell the word “Guru” out aloud you get, Gee – You – Are – You. Ironic huh? Those that can, do. Those that can’t, teach. Those passionate about what they do, teach by default. |
Creative photography took on new heights when I began climbing trees, and moved into the digital era. The image to the right is multi-layered. I had the vision of the 'Do Drop Inn' project and, since climbers were a little thin on the ground at the time, I climbed the tree five times, with a costume change each climb, plus two climbs into the Karri tree that the camera is mounted to. I used a remote controller to capture each portrait, the home brew was a prop, and no, I wasn't drinking.
It may be photoshop, but the layers are real, and all were taken in one session. The tree I am in, as with all the trees featured in these images, are Karri, standing tall in Denmark, Western Australia. |
Tied-in to an overhanging Karri limb, I captured this image as the headlights of a car passing below lit the Karri trees in the dark of night. The car's tail-lights have forever etched a drunken path through the forest.
There's one sheep dawg that doesn't respond to 'Kelpie speak' when it comes to being out on the Triumph. Why would any self-respectin bike-ridin Kelpie, regardless of how much she loves her Papa, pay attention to any amount of, "Gwawn ya mongrel bastard, now git behind"?
He never means it anyway.
